NORFLURAZON Usage And Synthesis
Chemical PropertiesWhite to gray-brown crystalline solid or powder. Odorless.
UsesPesticide.
UsesFood additive; herbicide.
DefinitionChEBI: Norflurazon is a pyridazinone that is pyridazin-3(2H)-one which is substituted at positions 2, 4, and 5 by m-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl, chloro, and methylamino groups, respectively. A pre-emergence herbicide used to control grasses and broad-leafed weeds in a variety of crops. Not approved for use within the European Union. It has a role as a carotenoid biosynthesis inhibitor, a herbicide and an agrochemical. It is a pyridazinone, a member of (trifluoromethyl)benzenes, an organochlorine compound and a secondary amino compound.
General DescriptionColorless odorless crystals. Non corrosive. Used as an herbicide.
Reactivity ProfileA trifluoromethyl pyridazinone derivative.
Agricultural UsesHerbicide: Norflurazon is a selective preemergent herbicide used to control germinating annual grasses, sedges, rushes and broadleaf weeds in fruits (cranberries, citrus, cherries, nectarines, apricots), grape vines, vegetables, nuts, cotton, peanuts, soybeans, and various nonagricultural and industrial areas. Forbidden for use in the EU after 7/25/2003. Registered for use in the U.S. Manufactured in the US by Clariant Corporation, North Carolina.

Waste DisposalIt is the responsibility of chemical waste generators to determine the toxicity and physical properties and of a discarded chemical and to properly identify its classification and certification as a hazardous waste and to determine the disposal method. United States Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for the classification determination are listed in 40 CFR Parts 261.3. Additionally, waste generators must consult and follow all regional, national, state and local hazardous waste laws to ensure complete and accurate classification and disposal methods. Follow recommendations for the disposal of pesticides and pesticide containers. Containers must be disposed of properly by following package label directions or by contacting your local or federal environmental control agency, or by contacting your regional EPA office.
