DICARBONYLCYCLOPENTADIENYLCOBALT Usage And Synthesis
Reactions
  1. Volatile cobalt complex used for the deposition of cobalt and cobalt oxide films.
  2. Intramolecular cobalt-catalyzed [2+2+2] cycloaddition of O-protected diyne-cycanohydrins.
  3. Catalyst used for the dehydrative direct CH allylation with allylic alcohols.
Reactions of 12078-25-0
Chemical Propertiesdark red to brown liquid
UsesDicarbonylcyclopentadienylcobalt Catalyst for the cyclotrimerization of alkynes. It mediates the [2+2+2]-cyclization of allenediynes to tricyclic systems. catalyzes the formation of pyridines from a mixture of alkynes and nitriles.
Purification MethodsBest distilled in an atmosphere of CO in a vacuum. The red brown liquid decomposes slightly on distillation even in a vacuum to liberate some CO. Operations should be performed in an efficient fume cupboard. It is soluble in organic solvents and stable in air but decomposes slowly in sunlight and rapidly under UV. [Piper et al. J Inorg Nucl Chem 1 165 1955, Beilstein 16 IV 1827.] TOXIC.
