UsesTrimethoxysilane is used as a catalyst in the hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol.
General DescriptionA colorless liquid. Slightly soluble in water and denser than water. Hence floats on water. Very toxic by ingestion, inhalation or skin absorption. May also be corrosive to skin and eyes.
Air & Water ReactionsHighly flammable. Slightly soluble in water.
Reactivity ProfileTrimethoxysilane may accumulate static electricity; hazardous polymerization may occur.
Health HazardMay cause toxic effects if inhaled or ingested/swallowed. Contact with substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Fire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
