3-Methoxybutyl acetate Usage And Synthesis
General DescriptionA liquid with an acrid odor. Flash point near 140°F. Slightly less dense than water. Vapors much heavier than air. May irritate skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.
Air & Water ReactionsFlammable. Slightly soluble in water.
Reactivity ProfileWhen heated to decomposition, emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes [USCG, 1999].
Health HazardCauses eye and skin irritation. Mildly toxic by ingestion.
Fire HazardSpecial Hazards of Combustion Products: When heated to decomposition, emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
Safety ProfileMildly toxic by ingestion. A skin and eye irritant. A flammable liquid. Flammable when exposed to heat or flame; can react with oxidizing materials. To fight fire, use alcohol foam, COa, dry chemical. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
