UsesA psychotropic agent with anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant properties. It is a precursor to the active substance Desmethyldiazepam (D291595).
DefinitionChEBI: Oxazolam is an organic molecular entity and a hemiaminal ether.
Manufacturing ProcessTo a solution of 12.0 g of 5-chloro-2-chloroacetylaminobenzophenone and 3.2 g of isopropanolamine in 100 ml of ethanol was added 3.3 g of sodium acetate.
The resulting mixture was heated under reflux with stirring for 12 hours. After completion of the reaction, the solvent was distilled off and the residue was extracted with dichloromethane. The extract was washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and the solvent was distilled off.
The residue was recrystallized from ethanol to give 10.6 g of the desired product melting at 186°C to 188.5°C.
